StayFine Project

Preventing relapse in adolescents with depression and anxiety disorders through personalized digital interventions

StayFine Project

Project Overview

Adolescence is a vulnerable period for the development of stress-related disorders, such as anxiety and depressive disorders. Following remission, up to 60% of adolescents relapses within three years. The StayFine study is an ongoing longitudinal randomized control trial that assesses the efficacy of a personalized app to prevent relapse in adolescents (13-21 years) that remitted from depression and/or anxiety disorders.

Participants are monitored during five 2-week periods in three years and data is collected using clinical interviews, questionnaires, ecological momentary assessment, and wearables. Within this project, our goal is to gain insights into the role of physical activity and inactivity during remission and relapse (prevention) using complex analyses.

Research Methodology

Our research methodology combines multiple data collection approaches:

  • Clinical interviews and standardized questionnaires to assess mental health status
  • Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to capture real-time data on mood, stress, and activities
  • Wearable devices to monitor physical activity patterns, sleep quality, and physiological markers
